And here we go!!

So yesterday was the beginning of my little daycare venture!!! YAY!! So far I have two kids, Preston (P-Man) 3 and Yolina (Yo-Yo) 2. Brother and sister. Thus far they are great kids, very well behaved, say their pleases and thank you’s and pick up after themselves when I ask. Their mom is sweet, really quiet and doesn’t trust me a bit yet. I can’t say I blame her.

Her kids ended up here with me by default: that is, the lady she had all set up crapped out on her. So Sunday afternoon I got a frantic call from Nervous Mommy asking if she could come meet with me right away because she needs someone TOMORROW. Poor girl. I agreed and she showed up an hour later toting two precious and very outgoing kids who were more then willing to dive into my new, second hand toy-filled playroom. Nervous Mommy sat on the very edge of the couch,  clutching Yo-Yo’s blankie, eyes darting back and forth between her kids joyfully playing and me, the big bad babysitter. She asked very few questions, which surprised me considering how incredibly worried she was about leaving her babies with a complete stranger the very next day. I asked a lot of questions and just generally tried to soothe her nerves, the tension radiating from her was making me uncomfortable as hell. She asked if we could do a trial, Monday and Tuesday, see if it works out, if her kids like me, etc. I agreed.

The next morning (Monday) Nervous Mommy knocked on my door right on time. “I’ve never left them before!” she says as soon as I open the door. Oh crap. As she is rattling on about what she packed in their bag I am mentally preparing myself for the HUGE FITS I can see lurking on the near horizon as Nervous Mommy leaves P-Man and Yo-Yo FOR THE FIRST TIME!!! She hugs each of them and gives bye-bye kisses and turns to leave….and that was that. Nervous Mommy heads off to work and the kids take off for the playroom. Easy as pie. I breathe a HUGE sigh of relief and switch the TV to the Sprouts Channel.

It was a great first day. Two snacks, hours of kid TV, one tantrum over a nap, one sibling fight and 10 hours later, Nervous Mommy was knocking on the door again. P-Man leaps into her arms shortly followed by Yo-Yo and minutes later my house was my own again.

Can it really be that easy??

Today has gone just as smooth. Drop off, play, TV, snack, play, lunch, nap. That’s where I am currently at. Nap time. Such a blessed event, even with two angelic kids the break is nice. Before Nervous Mommy went off to work this morning she told me the kids seem happy with me and she would like to make this permanent and full-time. She also asked if I would be willing to take a girlfriend’s daughter as well. Hell yes. My little daycare is up and running. I feel great about it and am so excited for this chapter of my life.
